Jamie Carragher has just been forced to admit he was wrong about Casemiro, backtracks over infamous quote

Casemiro has put in an excellent run of games for Manchester United, even winning over his harshest critic, Jamie Carragher.

Manchester United will have been pleasantly surprised by the revival of Casemiro as a top-level midfielder, but nobody will be more shocked than Jamie Carragher.

The Brazilian has been excellent all season for United, rolling back the years and being one of the players of the season.

On Sunday, Casemiro was excellent against Fulham, dominating the midfield battle while he also scored and assisted.

After this top-class performance, he has finally gotten his flowers from Carragher, who was once very harsh about Casemiro.

Jamie Carragher takes back his major criticisms of Casemiro

Back in 2024, Casemiro’s levels had dropped drastically and he looked out of place in the Premier League.

This prompted Carragher telling Casemiro to leave football.

“I think Casemiro should know tonight that he should only have another three games left at the top level,” Carragher said then. The next two league games and the cup final, then he should be thinking, I need to go to the MLS or Saudi.

“This has to stop because we are watching one of the greats of modern times. I always remember the saying ‘leave the football before the football leaves you’. The football has left him. At this top level, he needs to call it a day at this level and move.”

But now, Carragher has performed a complete U-turn on these comments, admitting he has been proven wrong.

“It is now fair to say the football has not left him,” Carragher said on Sky Sports‘ Super Sunday Extra Time.

“Considering what he’s producing this season in the Premier League, and not just Fulham at home, you think what he did last week against Arsenal away and Manchester City at home.

“Casemiro is well within his rights to, if he wants to come back at me and say, ‘leave the punditry before the punditry’s left you!’ He could definitely get one of those back in. Credit to him, he looks a completely different player.

“He looks like a different player physically as well. Even when I said that, you looked at him and he looked like an old man coming to the end of his time as a player.

“And whether he let himself go a little bit, or now he’s being ultra professional, physically, he looks completely different.”

Casemiro has forced Jamie Carragher into publicly acknowledging his criticism was wrong…

Should Carragher go further and issue a direct apology to Casemiro for his comments?

Casemiro proved everyone wrong at Manchester United

While Casemiro has long proven Carragher wrong, the former Liverpool wasn’t the only person made to look silly.

Despite United fans right behind Casemiro now, around this time, the general feeling within the fanbase was that the midfielder had to go, and at the time, these criticisms weren’t wrong.

But Casemiro worked hard to get into the best shape of his life and has been better than ever this season, becoming irreplaceable for United.

United are set to lose Casemiro in the summer, though, so Ineos face the unenviable task of finding a player who can replace the qualities of the Brazil captain.

Which will be no easy feat.
