Gary Neville thinks Man Utd have player who has shades of Ji-sung Park written all over him, ‘he starts the…’

Sky Sports pundit Gary Neville believes that one of Ruben Amorim’s first-team Red Devils stars does ‘remind’ him of former Manchester United teammate Ji-sung Park.

Ji-sung Park ascended to cult hero status at Old Trafford during his prolific playing spell at Manchester United under iconic former manager Sir Alex Ferguson.

Sir Alex Ferguson brought the 44-year-old South Korean former midfielder to England in 2005 after United signed him from Dutch side PSV Eindhoven.

Paying a reported fee of around £4m for Park, the former PSV Eindhoven and Queens Park Rangers midfielder became a key first-team player for Ferguson.

Legendary former United manager Ferguson would often call upon Park when he was needed to bolster his midfield with a player who had a relentless work rate.

Park Ji-sung lifted four Premier League titles, a Champions League trophy and three League Cups with Manchester United under Sir Alex Ferguson before his club exit.

Speaking on The Overlap, Gary Neville brought up his former United teammate after he touched on the impact of Mason Mount under Ruben Amorim at Old Trafford.

Mason Mount has established himself as a key – and deeply influential – player in Ruben Amorim’s tactical system for United in the 2025-26 Premier League season.

The 26-year-old former Chelsea star’s run at Old Trafford has been curtailed by his time on the sidelines, but Mount has finally appeared to overcome his injury-hit run.

During his appearance on the Stick to Football podcast, Neville said: “Do you know what I think about Mount?

“He reminds me, say, Darren Anderton or Adam Lallana, Ji-Sung Park, maybe a little bit.

“Players who do that sort of ugly bit well, but they also connect and glue things with, like, he starts the press.”

Mason Mount’s run of form in the 2025-26 Premier League season is rewarding the faith that Ruben Amorim has placed in him

Mount has shown his versatility for Amorim since the United manager’s arrival from Sporting CP in 2024, including playing as a No 10 and in a false nine-type of role.

The United No 7’s influence has been ever-present on the pitch during his performances, with Mount making the United frontline tick in his advanced position.

Mount has struggled to build momentum with regular appearances for United since the Red Devils paid an initial fee of £55m to sign him from Chelsea in 2023.

But the ex-England international appears to be finally coming into his own at Old Trafford and Mount has consistently been in his element in the 2025-26 campaign.

Mount has made eight appearances for United this season and the former Blues ace has netted once and registered one assist for Amorim’s men.
