Musiala Withdraws From Germany Squad After Muscle Injury

Jamal Musiala has been withdrawn from Germany’s starting lineup shortly before Thursday’s clash with the Netherlands.

The Bayern Munich midfielder is now set to return to Säbener Straße, with the club confirming his departure from the national team setup in a statement.

“Jamal Musiala is set to return early from duty with the German national team. As the German Football Association announced on Friday, the FC Bayern midfielder has suffered a torn muscle fibre in his right thigh.

The 23-year-old picked up the injury on Thursday evening whilst warming up for the DFB side’s UEFA Nations League opener in the Netherlands; Musiala had actually been named in the starting XI for the match in Amsterdam. He’ll now begin his rehab programme at FC Bayern.”

The latest update is a setback for Musiala, with Sky Germany’s Kerry Hau reporting that the Bayern Munich midfielder is expected to miss three to four weeks with a muscle fibre tear in his thigh.

Musiala is not the only Germany player leaving camp, as Arsenal forward Kai Havertz has also departed after suffering a muscular problem during the draw against the Netherlands.

Both players will be replaced in the squad, with Liverpool midfielder Florian Wirtz and Eintracht Frankfurt striker Jonathan Burkardt called up as their replacements, according to Hau.
