Kolkata football giants East Bengal FC will be in action in the AFC Women’s Champions League 2025 preliminary stage, starting from Monday.

The Moshal Girls qualified for the continental competition by winning the 2024-25 Indian Women’s League and the AWCL campaign marks their maiden outing in any AFC football competition.

East Bengal have been drawn in Group E alongside hosts Phnom Penh Crown FC and Hong Kong China’s Kitchee SC in the preliminary stage.

The preliminary phase of the 2025-26 AFC Women’s Champions League features 19 teams, split into five groups - four pools of four teams each and one of three.

After single round-robin matches, the five group winners and the best-ranked runners-up across pools will progress to the group stage, joining six automatic qualifiers from the highest-ranked AFC member associations.

Already assured of main draw spots are Melbourne City FC (Australia), Suwon FC Women (Republic of Korea), Tokyo Verdy Beleza (Japan), defending champions Wuhan Jiangda Women’s FC (People’s Republic of China), Ho Chi Minh City Women’s FC (Vietnam) and Bam Khatoon FC (Islamic Republic of Iran).

Each group in the preliminary stage will be hosted at a centralised venue. East Bengal’s Group E will be conducted at the National Sports Complex of Cambodia in Phnom Penh.

East Bengal will play both their preliminary matches in Phnom Penh, starting against Phnom Penh Crown FC on August 25 before meeting Kitchee SC on August 31.

Should East Bengal qualify for the AWCL 2025-26 group stage, they will enter a separate draw scheduled in Kuala Lumpur on September 11.
