Newcastle United forward Alexander Isak continues to be linked with a move to Liverpool. The 25-year-old is adamant he has played his final game for the Magpies and is pushing to make the switch to Anfield.

On Tuesday, the Swede was absent from the PFA Awards, where he was included in the Team of the Year. Shortly after his inclusion, he turned to Instagram to drop a bombshell statement around his situation.

Isak, who didn't feature in Newcastle's Premier League opener against Aston Villa last weekend, said that 'change is in the best interests of everyone and said his relationship with the club cannot go on.

Isak transfer latest

The saga around Alexander Isak's proposed move to Liverpool is showing signs of an ending with Chronicle Live reporting that the Sweden international could be about to finally get his wish.

It's reported that, as Newcastle have a player that doesn't want to be there, is on £120,000 per-week and training alone, all roads are pointing to an exit from St James' Park for the former Borussia Dortmund man.

Newcastle's main backers Public Investment Fund (PIF) will see that Isak is not contributing on the pitch and not selling shirts off, meaning a departure is 'getting closer' and the most feasible outcome at this stage.

Howe decision

Newcastle United head coach Eddie Howe spoke in length about Alexander Isak's future in his press conference on Friday morning. He revealed that Isak, as expected, won't be involved against Liverpool on Monday.

"There has been no change," Howe started. "No, he won't be part of the squad for this weekend's game."

Delivering his verdict on the current situation, Howe added: "These situations are from ideal as in talking press-wise and a lot of the attention has gone onto that rather than the team and our preparation.

"As soon as I leave here, I'm back preparing, taking training, delivering meetings, speaking to individual players, trying to get the group in the best frame of mind possible, so the job changes. Just the outside perception is one that is totally different to normal.

"The club has to act in the best interests of Newcastle United. It will do that in every situation. I think it is a lose/lose situation to a degree for us because I don’t think we can come out of this winning in any situation.

"And that's why I've said all summer it's a difficult situation for the club to manage. We love Alex in the sense of what he's done for the football club since he's been here, what he's contributed, what he's given, how professional he's been. This has just been an unfortunate few months. It looks like it is coming to an end, or it will come to an end pretty quickly and then we can focus on the football again."

Transfer boost

Liverpool have been handed a potential boost in their hopes of signing Isak before the end of the window, with Newcastle reportedly making progress on a potential replacement.

According to the Express and Star, the Magpies are pushing hard to sign Wolves striker Jurgen Strand Larsen and have agreed personal terms with the player. There is, however, yet to be direct contact between Newcastle and Wolves over a deal, with negotiations only taking place if they believe that they are getting closer to securing a fee.

Wolves are said to value the player at £60 million. If Newcastle get close to paying that, then income from any sale of Isak would more than cover the cost.
