Daniil Medvedev announces he has split with another member of his team following his US Open exit

Daniil Medvedev continues to make big changes following his shock exit at the US Open, where he lost in the first round.

Medvedev lost to Benjamin Bonzi in round one of the US Open, suffering a third successive first round exit at Grand Slam level.

Nick Kyrgios praised Medvedev following the defeat, in which he lost his temper, arguing with the umpire and smashing his racket.

The 29-year-old once reached number one in the ATP rankings, but currently occupies 13th place, with his last title arriving in 2023.

Medvedev parted ways with Gilles Cervara following his US Open exit, with the duo having worked together since 2017.

And the Russian has now decided to split with another team member, having sent a message to fitness coach Eric Hernandez.

Medvedev wrote on Instagram: “Thank you Eric. Thanks for making me Better Faster Stronger every day. You made me able to run more than 20 hours during one tournament and still have the chance to win it.

Hernandez, who was in charge of the physical preparation of Medvedev, has also issued a message to the player.

He posted on Instagram: “My dear Daniil. What a journey! I met you in 2014, and during these 11 years, we have in common many wonderful experiences and moments in and off court.

“It will remain etched in my memory forever. Working with you has been a true joy, through both the highs and the lows.

“I tried to push you at your best, I put all my skills to bringing out the best in you and helping you make the most of what you could achieve.

“Thank you for your confidence Daniil. I’m deeply grateful for the journey we’ve shared together. I wish you all the success, as a player but also in your family life as a father.

“From now on, I will explore other worlds, take on new challenges, and discover new projects! Thanks to the Team around Daniil, no words… So many moments spent thinking and laughing together, all around one shared goal: performance!”

The duo clearly enjoyed many happy moments together, but Medvedev is now seemingly very eager to make major changes going forward.

And that certainly doesn’t seem like a bad idea, with the Russian enduring a very difficult period of his career.

He has achieved superb success thus far, winning the US Open and reaching five other Grand Slam finals, but such success has dried up in recent times.

Whether or not he can get back to his best remains to be seen, but behind-the-scenes changes could be a positive way to start.
