The International Cricket Council (ICC) is set to hold its quarterly meetings at the end of May in Ahmedabad, triggering fresh speculation over whether Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) chairman Mohsin Naqvi will attend.

According to ESPNcricinfo, the ICC Chief Executives’ Committee (CEC) will hold a virtual meeting on May 21, followed by an in-person ICC Board meeting on May 30 and 31. The venue was originally planned for Doha in Qatar but was shifted to Ahmedabad due to regional tensions in the Gulf. The board meeting will coincide with the IPL 2026 final, which is also scheduled in the same city that weekend.

Will Naqvi come to India?

Naqvi’s participation remains uncertain. In normal circumstances, the PCB chief, who also serves as Pakistan’s Interior Minister and Asian Cricket Council president, would be expected to attend. However, given the ongoing tensions with the BCCI and the meeting’s location in India, his presence is now in doubt.

Naqvi has faced repeated criticism for his strained relations with the BCCI and his attempts to disrupt international cricket.

He is yet to hand over the Asia Cup 2025 trophy to the Indian team despite Pakistan’s loss in the final. He has also been accused of playing a behind-the-scenes role in the Bangladesh-ICC standoff that led to Bangladesh’s withdrawal from the 2026 T20 World Cup. Additionally, Naqvi drew widespread backlash for sharing a controversial social media post featuring Cristiano Ronaldo’s fighter-jet celebration during the Asia Cup.

His repeated run-ins with the Indian board have raised questions about whether he will choose to attend the high-level ICC meeting on Indian soil.

The meetings are expected to discuss key issues, including possible expansion of the World Test Championship and proposals for one-Test series. The format of the World Test Championship will once again be under discussion. However, as per the report, no final decision will be made in the meeting.
