PBKS need 197 to stay alive

Right, first innings review time, difficult to say which team will be the happier of the two sides after the first innings. LSG managed to keep the runs flowing but PBKS struck at regular intervals to apply the brakes, especially in the death overs, where barring the last over, the bowlers didn’t go for more than six runs per over.

Josh Inglis was once again the standout performer for LSG, scoring a half century, while Abdul Samad played a handy cameo in the back end to take LSG to 196. Special shoutout to Ayush Badoni as well, who scored a 18 ball 43 to set the tone early for the home side.

There is no doubt that PBKS has enough firepower in its batting unit to chase this down but with its season on the line, will the batters crack? Stay tuned to find out, second innings to begin shortly.

Shreyas Iyer's dip in form with the bat

Shreyas Iyer, the PBKS captain fondly referred to as ‘sarpanch’ by the fans, has found the going tough in the last few games. His captaincy and onfield tactics have come under question after PBKS’ six game losing streak and with the bat, the runs have dried up.

The 31-year-old has managed to score just one 30 plus score in his last five outings, and head coach Ricky Ponting will hope Shreyas can rediscover his spark not just with the bat, but with his decisions on the field.

PBKS bowlers need to step up

Its been 200 plus totals on both sides of the coin for PBKS this season. While the batting unit has consistently breached the 200 run mark, so have the bowlers.

The fact that the last game against RCB was the ninth time PBKS conceded a 200 plus total this season, the highest ever by a team across a season in the history of the competition, speaks volumes.

Arshdeep Singh, the leader of the attack has struggled for consistency and his partners from the other end, have not made much of an impression either. South African Marco Jansen, who had an excellent campaign with the ball in the T20 World Cup, has performed so poorly for Punjab this season that he has lost his place in the side.

And last but not the least , Yuzvendra Chahal, the highest wicket taker in the IPL, has not necessarily put a foot wrong and should have had many more wickets this season if not for the side’s countless dropped chances.
