Man United set sights on deal to sign Crystal Palace sensation Lucca Benetton

Manchester United, PSV Eindhoven and Club Brugge are plotting moves to sign Crystal Palace wonderkid Luca Benetton, sources have told Football Insider.

Benetton, 15, is very highly rated within the corridors of power at Selhurst Park and has already trained with the first-team squad at Crystal Palace.

The talented goalkeeper has already made the step up to play for the Under-18s and helped Palace win the Under-18 Premier League Cup this season.

Having also represented England’s Under-17s side, Benetton’s huge potential has alerted a number of Premier League rivals and European sides.

PSV and Club Brugge are among his strongest admirers, with the European giants now plotting moves to lure him away from Selhurst Park, while Man United are eyeing a deal.

Why are Man United interested in Luca Benetton?

Crystal Palace have lost multiple highly-rated talents from their academy in recent years, with Football Insider first revealing Chelsea’s interest in Jesse Derry.

Derry recently made his Premier League debut for the West London club, while Man United have also poached a key talent with their signing of Samuel Lusale in 2024.

Benetton could be the latest Crystal Palace academy star to be lured away by a Premier League rival after his success in the Eagles’ Under-18s Premier League Cup-winning team.

Having beaten Man United’s highly-regarded Under-18s side in the final thanks to a penalty save, they were alerted to the goalkeeper’s talent and have been tracking his displays.

Their European rivals for his signature have also been impressed by the 15-year-old, although Palace remain hopeful of keeping him at Selhurst Park.

Which other Man United Under-18s are ones to watch?

Benetton is not the only 15-year-old playing up the age groups at academy level who has caught the eye of Man United and watching talent scouts.

Former United chief scout Mick Brown told Football Insider that JJ Gabriel has wowed coaches at Man United with his performances in the academy.

At just 15 years old, the midfielder has already established himself as a regular for the Under-18s and enjoys a fantastic goalscoring record at that level.

He has made 28 appearances in the Under-18 Premier League and FA Youth Cup this season, and has scored 26 goals while setting up four assists as well.

Gabriel has been identified as one to watch for the future both for United and for England, where he has featured for the Under-17s side alongside Benetton on two occasions.
