Man Utd's behind-the-scenes 'key figure' who engineered Ineos' two fantastic transfers is set to leave Old Trafford

Sir Jim Ratcliffe and Ineos have been dealt a major blow at Old Trafford after reports emerged that an influential Manchester United figure will leave the club.

The Ineos regime has come under scrutiny since it took control of football operations at Old Trafford after Sir Jim Ratcliffe acquired a minority stake in the Red Devils.

Ratcliffe and Co have enacted deeply unpopular measures at the club, including raising the price of tickets and axing staff as part of cost-cutting measures.

Ineos have also been under pressure over Manchester United’s current season under Ruben Amorim, despite heavily backing the Red Devils manager in the summer.

Ratcliffe’s team splashed out on different big-money transfers in the summer, including the signings of Matheus Cunha, Benjamin Sesko and Bryan Mbeumo.

Who is Luke Fedorenko and why is he leaving Man Utd under the Ineos reign at Old Trafford?

Luke Fedorenko is the head of academy recruitment for Manchester United and the long-standing figure has held the role at the Premier League club since 2023.

United’s head of academy recruitment has been at Old Trafford since 2017, having previously worked as an academy lead scout and the head of local recruitment.

Luke Fedorenko had been at Sheffield United before his arrival at United and had served as academy chief scout and head of academy recruitment for the Blades.

According to BBC Sport, the former Sheffield United academy figure will now be leaving Old Trafford, which could be a major blow to Sir Jim Ratcliffe and Ineos.

It has not been revealed the exact date when Fedorenko will make his exit, but it is believed that he has now ‘accepted a new opportunity with an agency.’

Ineos had made a key change to the United youth academy in the summer after Stephen Torpey arrived at the club and was appointed academy director.

Stephen Torpey left Brentford and became a part of the behind-the-scenes team at United, with the academy director replacing Nick Cox in the role at Old Trafford.

What two transfers did Luke Fedorenko play a key role in for Man Utd under Sir Jim Ratcliffe and Ineos?

As part of his role as head of academy recruitment for United, Luke Fedorenko has been an influential figure in bringing promising talent to the Premier League club.

BBC Sport highlighted that Fedorenko played a ‘key’ part in the arrivals of Ayden Heaven and Chido Obi from Premier League side Arsenal during his time at United.

Chido Obi left the Arsenal academy system in 2024 and the 17-year-old Danish striker has since appeared in the United first-team squad in sporadic intervals.

Ayden Heaven, meanwhile, arrived at Old Trafford during the January transfer window and, much like Chido, has played for the first team under Ruben Amorim.
