All the records set by "King" Virat Kohli as he announces Test cricket retirement

Legendary India batsman Virat Kohli has announced his immediate retirement from Test cricket, concluding a remarkable 14-year career which has seen him achieve several Guinness World Records titles. Kohli’s announcement came not long after his former captain, Rohit Sharma, also decided to step down from the game’s longest format.

“King” Kohli’s aggressive batting approach, married with exemplary timing, was put to fine use throughout his record-breaking career. After being named as India’s Test captain, he became the first player to score three hundreds in their first three Test innings as captain with centuries across the First and Fourth Tests during their series in Australia (India were captained by MS Dhoni for the Second and Third Tests).

He has also achieved a remarkable record for the most double hundreds by a Test cricket captain with seven. In 2016, he hit 200 against West Indies, 211 against New Zealand, and 235 against England. The next year he followed this up with 204 against Bangladesh and 213 then 243 against Sri Lanka. In 2019, he then hit his record-breaking seventh double century with a mighty unbeaten 254 against South Africa.

He made his Test debut in 2011 against the West Indies and by the end of his career had notched a spectacular 9,230 runs with a batting average of 46, and 30 centuries. He captained India to 40 Test wins in 68 Test matches, making him the country’s most successful captain to date, and achieved the highest win percentage at home for a Test cricket captain (77.41%).

Kohli confirmed his retirement in a heartfelt Instagram post.
