Anthony Edwards Reveals His Realistic Scenario Of Joining NFL

1
NBA superstar Anthony Edwards made a surprising comment about a realistic scenario that could see him leaving the league for the NFL. Edwards’ incredible athletic ability has sparked conversations about whether he could make it in the biggest football league. However, one major goal must be accomplished by Edwards and the Minnesota Timberwolves before he even thinks about the NFL.

Edwards said the following about football, shared by Bleacher Report:

“I’m trying to find a way to get a ring. Once I get one, that would be cool. I’ll go play football, especially if I get one while I’m still young. If I get one before I turn 30, I’m definitely gon’ try to play football. I’d probably play receiver. I might try to go QB, probably backup QB, because I don’t really have to play unless the starter gets hurt.”

The comment from Edwards made it clear that winning an NBA Championship is the most important thing in his career. Edwards winning a ring at a young age and still having the chance to try football are linked together here. Minnesota remains an outside dark horse to win the title, but his talent is strong enough to lead them over the finish line.

Does Anthony Edwards Have A Football Background?

Multiple NBA stars were high-level football players in high school or college before making basketball their full-time sport. Edwards only played football at a high level in his younger years, but he was considered one of the best Pop Warner running backs in the United States for the Atlanta Vikings.

Three positions of running back, quarterback, and cornerback saw Edwards contributing in various ways. However, this recent comment indicated that he’d love to give wide receiver a try if he was playing professional football at the highest level today.

Edwards ditched football to give basketball his full attention since it was his best overall sport. The teen status of being a “four-star recruit” showed NBA potential at a young age. Edwards continued excelling at basketball and became one of the top prospects to eventually get selected first overall in the NBA Draft. However, the confidence of Edwards makes it clear he believes he could have made the NFL too.

Would The NFL Give Edwards A Chance?

The chances of Edwards leaving the NBA for the NFL remain extremely unlikely, no matter what he says. Edwards would have to give up the massive contract of being a top NBA superstar to chase a risky shot at NFL success.

It remains unlikely that the NFL teams would even consider giving Edwards a shot since so many receivers and quarterbacks spend their entire lives working for a roster spot. Too much competition out there and not enough time to prove his skills on a major level make it virtually impossible for Edwards to make the move.
