Pakistan cyber police question Rizwan and Imam-ul-Haq over alleged leaks

In Lahore, Pakistan, the National Cyber Crime Investigation Agency (NCCIA) questioned national cricket team players Imam-ul-Haq and Mohammad Rizwan in a case concerning alleged information leaks from the team dressing room during the series against England.

Cricket board complaint

As Dawn reports, the athletes were questioned on Thursday following a complaint filed by the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB), which is headed by Mohsin Naqvi. He is also Pakistan’s interior minister, and the NCCIA reports to him in that capacity.

Earlier, the PCB announced the launch of an internal disciplinary inquiry following media reports concerning players’ discipline and conduct. A board representative confirmed reports of an NCCIA probe involving certain cricketers but declined to comment until the investigation is completed. Naqvi did not respond to the publication’s request for comment.

Phones for examination

An informed source told the publication that both players were summoned to the NCCIA office in Lahore through official notices and were questioned for about four hours. According to the source, the cricketers said that their mobile phones were already with the NCCIA, which may conduct a forensic examination of the devices.

According to the source, Imam-ul-Haq and Rizwan also asked for more time to submit written responses to investigators, while the PCB had already handed their phones over to the agency. The source noted that the probe is expected to focus on alleged dressing-room leaks during the series against England.

Both players were among seven cricketers sent home after the national team’s poor performance in the first two Test matches against England.
