India beat Pakistan in Women’s Asia Cup cricket

India’s cricket team defeated Pakistan by seven wickets in a Women’s Asia Cup match in Dubai, UAE. The Pakistani team won the toss and chose to bat first, but scored only 54 runs — its lowest total in international T20 matches.

As Dawn reports, this was India’s seventh victory over Pakistan in eight head-to-head Asia Cup meetings. India captain Harmanpreet Kaur became the first female or male player to play 150 international T20 matches.

Pakistan’s unsuccessful innings

Pakistan began its innings with a partnership of 27 runs, but after Muneeba Ali was dismissed for 13 runs from 15 balls, the team quickly lost wickets. In her first over, Shree Charani dismissed Gul Feroza and Shawaal Zulfiqar, and later took another wicket.

Prema Rawat and Charani took three wickets each, Deepti Sharma took two, and Shafali Verma claimed one more. Pakistan captain Fatima Sana was dismissed without scoring after seven balls. Tuba Hassan was the last Pakistani player to be dismissed.

Fatima Sana’s three wickets

India began its chase with a six from Shafali Verma off the first ball of the innings. Fatima Sana took three wickets, dismissing Verma, Pratika Rawal and Smriti Mandhana, but this was not enough for Pakistan to challenge for victory.

In her milestone match, Kaur hit a four and sixes. Charani, who finished the match with figures of three wickets for seven runs, was named player of the match. India has already secured a place in the semifinals and first place in the group, while Pakistan needs to defeat Hong Kong in its next match to reach the final four.
