Mike Norvell: WR and DT will be OUT versus Alabama, starting WR expected to play

It's officially Alabama week for Florida State and head coach Mike Norvell met with local media on Monday to provide comments ahead of this weekend's pivotal season opener.

One of the main topics of note for Norvell today was an update to the health of football team.

Starting wide receiver Squirrel White is expected to play against 'Bama, which positive update to a player who has suffered some injuries throughout the offseason.

"Full expectation for Squirrel to play," Norvell said. "He was able to practice the last couple of days. Really pleased with him and his process. He came off the second scrimmage, had a great outing. Scored the long touchdown. You feel his confidence and he took that over to when he wasn't able to be on the field last week, as he was kind of recovering from a minor injury, his attack was there. He's done a great job. He's a veteran receiver. He's a guy that's performed at a very high level so we're glad to have him back in the field and looking forward to this week."

Second-year wide receiver Lawayne McCoy and true freshman defensive tackle Kevin Wynn are two players who we expected to make FSU's official depth chart release on Monday morning. However, both suffered injuries in fall camp and Norvell says they're both not expected to play against 'Bama on Saturday.

"Those will be two guys that'll be out this week. Expecting a relatively quick return but those are two guys that will not be available," Norvell said in his press conference this morning.

McCoy played in Florida State's final 10 games last season after making his debut against Memphis. He caught six passes for 52 yards, returned 10 punts for 30 yards and scored his first collegiate points on two-point conversion vs. North Carolina. He projects as a two-deep player for FSU in their wide receiver room when healthy.

Wynn joined the program back in January as the top-ranked recruit in FSU's 2025 high school recruiting class. If healthy, Wynn is expected to be a two-deep player for FSU in his first collegiate season -- likely as the primary backup at nose tackle behind Darrell Jackson.

The Seminoles will spend the next few days practicing ahead of Saturday's 3:30 kickoff versus the No. 8 ranked Crimson Tide.
