Manchester United transfer target Viktor Gyokeres feels he has a point to prove in the Premer League and has described a possible return to England as "great revenge". The Sweden international is facing an uncertain future at Sporting CP following a superb campaign in Portugal where he guided the Lisbon club to a league and cup double.

Arsenal are leading the race to sign the 27-year-old, who netted 97 goals in just two seasons in the region after spells with Brighton & Hove Albion and Coventry City. This summer, a saga surrounding his future has unfolded, with reports suggesting that the Swede will not return to training for pre-season ahead of Sporting's title defence.

After his blistering stint in Portugal, he has attracted big-money interest but in an interview with the French website L'Equipe, he remained coy on what the future holds for the talismanic striker.

“Maybe. That’s football, you never know. I don’t think about it; we’ll see what happens," he began.

"If something happens, it will.

"The most important thing for me is to play for a club that really wants me.

“It’s one of the biggest leagues in Europe," he added on the prospects of returning to the Premier League.

"I spent several years there without being able to play a single match.

"So, of course, it’s something I’d like to do.

"It would be great revenge."

United are in the market for a striker this season, with links to Gyokeres persisting given his working relationship with current head coach Ruben Amorim at Sporting.
