Tennis world delighted after second Aussie player gets married after de Minaur and Boulter

Daria Kasatkina has become the second Aussie tennis player to tie the knot in the space of four days, after marrying girlfriend Natalia Zabiiako in Greece. It comes hot on the heels of Alex de Minaur and Katie Boulter's wedding in England on Sunday.

Kasatkina and Zabiiako tied the knot in a small ceremony by the sea, attended by WTA stars Mirra Andreeva, Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova and Kamilla Rakhimova, as well as former Aussie tennis player Arina Rodionova. Kasatkina is the World No.63 in women's tennis, while Zabiiako is an Olympic silver medallist in figure skating.

The pair have been together since 2021 and got engaged last year. Kasatkina switched her international allegiance from Russia to Australia in March of 2025 and had previously admitted she held fears about being in a same-sex relationship in her country of birth.

"Australia is a place I love, is incredibly welcoming and a place where I feel totally at home. I love being in Melbourne and look forward to making my home there," she said last year.

She fled Russia in 2023 and said: "It's unsafe for me now, with the regime we have. As a gay person who opposes the war, it's not possible to go back. But I don't regret it even one per cent.

"I wanted to say my position on the war and my [sexuality], which was tough, coming from a country where being gay is not accepted, but it felt like I had a backpack of stones on my shoulders and I just had to throw it off. Afterwards, I faced a few consequences, but the only thing that worried me was my parents, and they were fine. They are proud of me."

Kasatkina made the third round at Wimbledon before losing to Naomi Osaka 6-1 6-3. She said her wedding would be a good way to take her mind off the humbling defeat.

"I've got my wedding, our wedding. I'm really looking forward to it," she said. "You know, a break from tennis. Honestly, like, really looking forward to it, like something really, really different.

"We're going to have about 40 people at the wedding in Athens, we've been working on this for like a year. I hope guests are going to like it; a few of them who are playing here will be coming along afterwards."
