Eden Gardens is a far cry from the venue for the last meeting of these sides.

Italy earned a shock 12-run victory at the very picturesque Voorburg Cricket Club for the T20 World Cup qualifier in the Netherlands.

With a nice view of a local church and horses watching on from the adjacent paddock, it was a superb advert for associate cricket.

I was there as a punter, trying - and failing - to avoid sunburn, while also watching Scotland's World Cup hopes go up in flames - or so they thought.

Both XIs look very different to that day, but Italy will fancy a repeat result on their World Cup debut.

"It's not how, it's how many..." a wise cricket sage once said.

'Happy to bat first'

Scotland skipper Richie Berrington: "We're fairly happy to bat first. Looks a really good surface and we saw the other day in our opening game you get value for your shots so hopefully we can bat well in that first innings and put a big score on the board.

"There were a lot of positives to take out the West Indies game and we were close to getting a good result from that game. Obviously there's a few things we can improve on. Italy are a good team and we are expecting a really good contest. The focus for us is what we can do well."

'We've built some confidence'

Italy captain Wayne Madsen: "It looks a good pitch and a fast outfield so I think it's going to be hard to defend. We are really excited. There's obviously been a lot of build up and preparation for this and it's about going out there enjoying it and expressing themselves and having a lot of fund.

"We haven't had the luxury of being together for a long time as a team so the two weeks in Dubai and the prep in Chennai before we've built some confidence."
