Roy Keane makes spine-tingling Eric Cantona remark about something rare that Man Utd did vs Liverpool

Roy Keane made a powerful assessment of Manchester United’s superb performance against Liverpool after linking it to a major point around former club teammate Eric Cantona.

The 54-year-old legendary former Manchester United captain shared the Old Trafford pitch with fellow Red Devils icon Eric Cantona during the 1990s.

Cantona had a seminal impact at the Premier League club under Sir Alex Ferguson, who brought the 59-year-old Frenchman to United in 1992 from Leeds United.

The iconic former United No 7 was a larger-than-life figure for the Red Devils and acted as a catalyst for the dominant reign that Sir Alex Ferguson ushered in.

Cantona, who arrived at Old Trafford for a £1m transfer fee, stunned the world in 1997 when he made his shock retirement from football at only the age of 30.

Roy Keane holds United legend Cantona in incredibly high regard and the former France international was brought up after the Liverpool match on Sunday.

Roy Keane’s ultimate compliment for how Man Utd players performed against Liverpool evokes Eric Cantona’s name

Manchester United inflicted a 2-1 defeat on Liverpool at the weekend and the Red Devils walked away with all three Premier League points from Anfield.

The Red Devils secured a late victory over the Reds on Sunday afternoon, with Harry Maguire netting United’s winner over Liverpool in the 84th minute of the tie.

Speaking on Sky Sports, Roy Keane admitted that United’s attacking players showed shades of Eric Cantona with their desire to pick up the ball and display their creative flair.

“They do look like they have goals in this team,” he said.

“That was a big problem last year. Some of the attacking players looked like there was a swagger about them. I liked that.

“Like all these players like Cantona used to do. ‘Give me the ball, I can deal with it.’

“And they dealt with it.”

Roy Keane sends a clear-cut message to Man Utd after the 2-1 Premier League win over Liverpool

Keane insisted that United players will receive a major boost after the result at Anfield, but he warned the Red Devils they must now maintain their momentum.

“The win will give the players belief about winning football matches,” he said.

The Sky Sports pundit added: “The key now for this group of players is to keep winning. They have to take it into the game against Brighton.”

United are one Premier League point ahead of 10th-place Brighton and the ninth-place Red Devils will host the Seagulls at Old Trafford on 25th October.
