Ruben Amorim is eager to improve results at Manchester United after managing to secure just one point from the first two games of the Premier League season. After finishing 15th in the Premier League last season, Manchester United are expected to improve, especially after revamping the attacking department in Ruben Amorim’s squad.Unfortunately, Amorim has not got the start he wanted.United drew 1-1 with Fulham on Sunday, a week after losing the first game of the season against Arsenal. These results have positioned United 16th in the league table. However, the Red Devils have a chance to get their first win of the season on Wednesday night when Amorim’s side travels to Grimsby Town in the Carabao Cup second round.Amorim is determined to turn things around, but he must start winning football matches to achieve that.Photo by Shaun Brooks – CameraSport via Getty ImagesUnited lost the Europa League final against Tottenham in May to blow any chance they had of competing in the Champions League this season. It was Champions League or nothing as United finished 15th in the league.More United NewsBut Amorim is eager to take advantage of not having as many midweek fixtures this season.Amorim has doubled down on how having more time with the players to prepare for games will help the team in the future, as he felt they weren’t prepared to compete in Europe last term.Speaking to reporters, Amorim said: “It’s a normal thing that happens in other clubs. I think we were not prepared to play Europe; that is my feeling, to have strong games in the Champions League and then play Premier League.“We need time to develop as a team. So, they just need to fight for the places, and then everything can change. Sometimes one is playing, in other moments, other guys are going to play, and we have the cups, so we’re going to have a lot of games for everybody.”Amorim is happy to have more time with the team this season. The Portuguese head coach believes it will help him lay the foundations for future success. He added: “Yeah, I said that last season. We need time to prepare every game. The games are really competitive, and we need time to build a base, and then, in the future, to move forward. And we’ll reach one moment where we need to have Europe for everybody to play games.”Amorim defends Altay BayindirAlthough Altay Bayindir was not at fault for Fulham’s goal in the 1-1 draw, the Turkey international raised eyebrows with his questionable performance.Bayindir struggled with the majority of Fulham’s corner kicks on Sunday. The flapping goalkeeper was often pushed over inside the penalty area, although he did create a chance for Matheus Cunha with a long ball in the first half. However, Amorim is defending Bayindir on the basis that big moments come from corners in every top-flight match.Amorim said: “Yeah, we are trying everything. But again, I know that you are focused a lot on the opponent’s corners, but if you remember this game – it was 10, 20 minutes ago – we had our chances. And we scored one goal [from] set pieces, we had a penalty, we had at least one in the end near the post.“And you can see every game in the Premier League, tell me one game you didn’t see a big occasion from corners. So, I think that will happen in every game.”
