Adrian Le Roux clears the confusion over Bronco Test and how his role as a strength and conditioning coach helps players in prolonging their careers.Adrian Le Roux has started his second innings with the Indian men’s cricket team as their strength and conditioning coach. Le Roux has already started leaving an imprint on the current bunch of India stars by having introduced Bronco Test – a shuttle run designed to check the aerobic endurance, stamina, and speed. The Indian players including Shubman Gill, Hardik Pandya, Sanju Samson, Arshdeep Singh, Jitesh Sharma, among others, underwent the test in the UAE where they are currently camped for the ongoing Asia Cup T20 tournament. So why has Le Roux asked the players to go through the new drill? The South African, in a video on BCCI’s official website, has lifted the lid.“The run we did today is the Bronco run. It’s not a new run or a new measurement. It’s been around for a number of years in different sporting codes and it’s just something we introduced recently within the team environment," Le Roux said.“The idea is two-fold. One is we can use it as a training mechanism and the second one we can also use it as a measurement. So we get a good idea where the players are in terms of their aerobic fitness and if we’re moving in the right direction," he added.Le Roux says Bronco Test can be done anywhere and allows a player to assess his fitness.“Well, it’s a field test. In other words, we can do it at any, any place, any ground around the world. As we travel, we can always use it. It also allows the player to assess himself sometimes. So it’s a very functional test that you can do any place," he said.Le Roux’s first stint with the Indian team lasted from January 2002 to May 2003. He then helped the South African team before linking up with IPL franchise Kolkata Knight Riders in 2008. More recently, he was associated with Punjab Kings before replacing Soham Desai in the Indian backroom staff.“Cricket is a sport of skill and we complement that skill for what we do. We try and also help players to sort of prolong their careers in a way if you’re physically prepared, you can play more seasons and you look after yourself. A lot of the things that we implement to minimise the risk for injury," Le Roux said.
