Real Madrid teenage midfielder wants to convince Mourinho and stay at club

Real Madrid’s pre-season will begin on July 13 with medical examinations at Valdebebas before Jose Mourinho officially starts work with his squad.

While players involved in the World Cup will return in stages depending on their international commitments, the Portuguese manager already has several key decisions in mind.

Among the most important are the futures of some of the club’s brightest young talents like Gonzalo Garcia, Franco Mastantuono and Thiago Pitarch.

Mourinho intends to evaluate all players during pre-season before deciding whether they should remain with the first team or spend the season on loan to continue their development.

Thiago wants to stay

Now, according to AS, Thiago’s priority is to convince Mourinho that he deserves a place in the first-team squad and stay at Real Madrid.

Thiago’s rise began under Alvaro Arbeloa, who handed him his senior debut with a brief appearance in the Champions League Round of 16 first leg against Benfica then managed by Mourinho.

From that point onward, the young midfielder established himself remarkably quickly. He started 11 matches before the end of the season, completing 10 of them, and overtook Eduardo Camavinga in the pecking order.

Pitarch is now preparing to represent Spain at the upcoming UEFA Under-19 European Championship in Wales, while there is no full clarity about what the future holds for him.

So far, no significant loan offers have emerged for the teenager, but he remains keen on convincing Mourinho and continuing as Real Madrid’s first-team squad.

Mourinho prepared to give Thiago a chance

As per the report, Mourinho has long believed that young footballers benefit more from regular competitive minutes than from spending an entire season on the bench.

If a player is unlikely to feature consistently for the first team, the coach prefers arranging a loan rather than risking their progression.

However, he considers both Pitarch and Franco Mastantuono to be special cases.

The Portuguese manager was impressed by Pitarch’s performances toward the end of last season, while Mastantuono has been on Mourinho’s radar since his breakthrough at River Plate.

Therefore, the incoming Real Madrid boss wants to assess both youngsters personally before making any decision on their future.

If Mourinho concludes that regular football elsewhere offers a better path, Real Madrid, the coaching staff and the players will work together to choose the destination that best supports their long-term growth.
