Where Eberechi Eze will play as Spurs close in on England star©TM/IMAGOTottenham Hotspur have reached an initial agreement with Crystal Palace to sign Eberechi Eze, according to various reports. The England international appeared to waive goodbye to the Palace supporters after the 0-0 draw with Chelsea at Stamford Bridge on Sunday. Tottenham have identified Eze as a priority target following a serious injury to James Maddison and Daniel Levy began talks with Crystal Palace chiefs last week. It’s understood there’s been a breakthrough in talks with Tottenham willing to pay around €63.5m for Eze, with a further €5.8m in add-ons. Eze would become Spurs' record signing if those add-ons are met. It’s believed that the two clubs are still negotiating how the initial fee will be structured with the full payment expected to be spread across different installments. Palace are in action against Fredrikstad on Thursday night in the Europa Conference League play-offs but Eze isn’t expected to be involved with his move to Tottenham edging closer. How Eberechi Eze could fit in at SpursCompleting the acquisition of Eze would represent a major boost for Spurs and Thomas Frank after an impressive start to life under the former Brentford coach. Tottenham were excellent in the Super Cup against PSG before collapsing in the final ten minutes and losing on penalties, but they responded impressively by dismantling Burnley on the opening day of the Premier League season. Arsenal were also interested in Eze earlier in the window but their interest cooled due to Ethan Nwaneri’s new contract and an inability to offload unwanted players.Frank is an extremely tactically flexible manager and Eze could feasibly be deployed in several positions or roles within his starting line-up. He has played the majority of his football at Palace in a central attacking midfield role but he’s equally comfortable at left-wing, with licence to roam infield. With injuries to Maddison and Dejan Kulusevski, Eze and fellow summer recruit Mohammed Kudus will become the creative fulcrum for Tottenham as they bid for a successful season in the Premier League and Champions League.
