Twitter reacts as Suryakumar Yadav holds spirit of game high with wonderful gesture

‌The Indian cricket team meant business after skipper Suryakumar Yadav opted to bowl against the United Arab Emirates in their first game of the Asia Cup T20 2025 in Dubai. The spin duo of Kuldeep Yadav and Varun Chakravarthy made life difficult for the batters as they reduced the UAE to 50/5 within the ninth over.

The introduction of Shivam Dube further worsened things as they crumbled to 54/8 with the medium pacer picking up two wickets. Just as the Men in Blue were looking to skittle out the UAE side, Dube charged into surprise Junaid Siddique with a short ball that sailed over his shoulders.

The batter was distracted as the towel slipped off Dube’s back after he bowled the delivery, and he made his displeasure clear immediately, pointing towards it as Sanju Samson gathered the ball behind the stumps. But he did not realise that he was standing outside the crease as an alert Samson threw the ball and hit the stumps.

As the TV umpire gave his decision for the big screen after going through the replays, the batter was shocked and started his walk back. But Suryakumar was quick to recall the batter after taking the issue to the umpires.

He understood the batter’s concern and called off India’s appeal for Siddique to return and continue his innings. SKY, who was initially cricticised for showing disrespect to a minnow side, was vindicated in his stand as he kept the spirit of the game high and intact.

Twitter was apologetic as they realised their folly of jumping the gun too early and stood with the Indian captain.

It's Out!
