Sudharsan, who was playing his 79th T20 match on Saturday, needed just 78 innings to join the 3000-run club in the 20-over format of the game. By reaching the 3000-run mark in 78 innings, Sudharsan became the fastest batter in the world to score 3000 T20 runs.

Sai Sudharsan’s record in T20s

The previous record of being the fastest player in the world to score 3000 runs in T20s was in the name of former Australian batter Shaun Marsh. Marsh, who played in the IPL for Punjab Kings, scored his 3000th run in the 85th innings.

In the list of batters who have taken fewest innings to score 3000 runs in T20s, Marsh is followed by Australia’s D’Arcy Short and New Zealand’s Devon Conway. Both Short and Conway scored their 3000th T20 run in the 86th innings.

By scoring his 3000th T20 run in just his 78th innings, Sudharsan became the first player in the world to reach the 3000-run mark in less than 80 innings. A total of five players have scored 3000 T20 runs in less than 90 innings but Sudharsan is the only one to take less than 80 innings.

Sudharsan, who is leading the list of batters with the most runs in IPL 2026, needed 36 runs on Saturday to join the 3000-run club, and he scored his 36th run on the second ball of the 18th over of the GT innings, which was bowled by Kartik Tyagi.
